Adrift by hadasaugh From suggester: "This is an elegant and finely crafted sculpture. The curves and details are beautifully done." There's an interesting variety and complexity of curves and shapes that both compliment and differ from one another. ( Suggested by cality and Featured by The-Build )
:iconburkitomas039:
Your design is very elegant, and bountiful. You have a very staunchest skill level.

Vision: Your vision and imagination are wonderful and sophisticated. It is poised between professionalism and passion. 4 stars.

Originality: 100% original and confident. 4.5 stars.

Technique: Technique is at an expert level and extremely defined and precise. My grandfather is an expert woodworker, so I have come to critique wood skill level very well. And my critique on this skill level: 4 stars.

Impact: First impression of this is that you are clearly advanced coming from an artistic point of view. I see many forms of art both locally and nationally and this piece really stuck out to me. It is very graceful and established. 4 stars.

I will give this piece a strong recommendation. Keep your wonderful art coming. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Danke!  The various lines not only represent the three different elements of this piece, but also try to capture the title concept.  I didn't think about it too much while I was doing it, which kept it from being forced.

please don't forget to everyone viewing this - the female photo used was from mickway - mickwag.deviantart.com/art/Kay…

without his talent and the model's talent for the achievement and capture of this pose, I would have nothing here except a fishhook and a fancy piece of driftwood.

I removed the "mature content" tag after reviewing the detailed description provided by DA and after receiving several comments from artists indicating they believed the mature content filter was not necessary.

bro this looks beautiful. Very smooth, very fair looking, a very nice peice

ps in all honesty I don't think it needs a filter. there's nothing sexual going on and to me there's nothing wrong with the human body(though I can still understand your reasoning)

Thanks much for your wonderful comments.  I understand your sentiment about the filter issue, but I am acting on the side of caution because there are many young artists using DA and some of their parents would prefer a filter for any nudity.

Ah yes I see, very well that's a pretty good move on your part. You made this whole sculpture by hand correct?

:iconhadasaugh:
hadasaugh Featured By Owner Feb 20, 2014  Professional General Artist
Yes, entirely by hand.  It took a long time to remove the wood with chisels.

For the life of me I cannot think why this is considered for Mature audiences.  Nicely carved though, even if the face looks a little funny.

I removed the "mature content" filter after reading the DA rules again.  Thanks!  Your comment and several others helped to make this correction.

I wanted to mark it as mature because of the nudity and out of respect for parents' choices for the children using this site.

That is the only reason.

I like to not be impressed with myself because then if I make something that wows me, I know it will impress others.  Regardless of the medium, I believe all artists have to keep growing.  For me that means, improvement of techniques to rival all masters.

Yes, the hook is a maori-inspired design.  They have beautiful craftmanship of their own and can make some beautiful hooks with bone, wood, and other material.
